Traditionally, Moroccan rugs were made solely by women for use within their own homes, to adorn the floors and be used as seating covers, bed covers or blankets during the colder months. The rugs often tell a story of the woman who created each piece—the design is always completely original. No two are ever the same.
The founder of Rug Maroc, Danny Popkin, is a traveller and collector who has enjoyed handpicking one of a kind rugs, painstakingly hand-woven by women in extraordinary Moroccan villages. He and his wife, Robin, have spent many journeys rummaging through thousands of rugs to select a few choice specimens. While they may not be "museum quality" or excessively large or even in perfect condition, the wear shows how cherished these objects have been in villagers' homes.
Rug Maroc was created as a source to share the beauty and intrigue woven into each work of art they discovered on their travels. Now the entire collection is being made available at COVER Connect New York.
